OVERVIEW
The Product Line Architecture (PLA) project began for a need to easily digest financial data about physical Nike products in the merchandising space.

The goal was to partner with cross-functional teams across research, design, business management, technical management, engineers, and end users to create a digital desktop dashboard to ingest this data.

RESPONSIBILITIES
As one of 4 UX researchers and 3 UX designers, I partnered across these Nike teams to contribute the preliminary research and design choices:

UX Design - Digital Product Creation (DPC) Merchandising
BPM - Business Product Managers
TPM - Technical Product Managers
Global Tech - Full Stack Engineers
TM - Transition Management
BRINGING FINANCIAL DATA TO THE FOREFRONT
The initial ideation began with finding where the best financial data lives today in a desktop solution. Ideas led to researching what today's leading financial soutions provide and how that data is displayed.
Pulling inspiration from various financial institutions, Fidelity Investment's solution was our strongest comparable digital product.
MAPPING INITIAL THOUGHTS
With limited information, our team had to reach out to end users to figure out how they were ingesting financial information in their current state. We found out that users were utilizing too many tools such as excel spreadsheets, unorganized documents from Box, PowerPoint, and various unsanctioned workflows. There was no central source of information. This led the team to create our initial workflows to talk about as a starting point.
DESIGNING IN TANDEM WITH CURRENT WORKFLOW
Our team took a different approach from traditional UX Design practices as Product Line Architecture was still being defined for our users. We started by designing and comparing desktop headers to establish a navigational system for our users.
IMAGINING A DASHBOARD
I was then asked to start designing a dashboard that would house various data points. Users would be able to see real-time data about products, seasonal updates, and historical data.
The design process of the initial dashboard consisted of Nike's Enterprise Design System (EDS) and custom solutions.
CURRENT UPDATE
Currently, all work on PLA has halted, and taken a divestiture to focus on really defining what PLA is for our users. A budget has not been allocated for PLA and teammates have been reassigned to other projects. When the budget allows, potential work on PLA will resume.
